I, Liberal

I came across this fabulous poem in the comments section over at American Thinker.  It is by Winslow3.

I, Liberal

I'm sure that there could never be
A man as virtuous as me.
I've honed my precious self-esteem
In ways no common man could dream!
To feed my moral vanity,
I preen for all the world to see;
I thrust in everybody's face
The noble causes I embrace.

And lest there be the slightest doubt
That I'm no bitter, clinging lout,
The bumper stickers on my Volt
Affirm that I'm no right-wing dolt.
As these credentials will attest,
I am the brightest and the best --
And true to my enlightened soul,
Utopia shall be my goal!

The planet should be mine to run;
I know what's best for everyone.
My Nanny Squad will nag and scold,
Until the plebes do as they're told.
My Social Justice Ministry
Will outlaw inequality --
With good intent unwavering,
I'll redistribute everything!

I'll be obscenely generous
With subsidy and stimulus;
To fund my drunken spending sprees,
The fat cats' profits I will seize!
For those who fail, my heart will bleed,
But woe to those who dare succeed.
I vow to vanquish human greed --
To each according to his need!

There'll be no want, there'll be no war,
My Welfare Corps will feed the poor.
There'll be no limit to my grace,
When I control the human race!
I'll heal the Earth, I'll low'r the Seas,
My Healthcare Force will smite disease --
And all will rightly worship me,
The Savior of Humanity!

  1. Hard to comment on this one. The poem about sums it all up, don't you think? It feeds my "Idealism is for people without all of the facts." theory perfectly.

I think most liberals are driven by a childish, immature need to be important. And they are all control freaks because they are scared shitless of the messy unknowns of real freedom.

Freedom is messy, risky and uncertain. Liberals want things neat and tidy, guaranteed and safe.

Liberals and conservatives are complete opposites.

    2. Unfortunately, our schools have been honed to put forth sheep rather than wolves. Many sheep wake up when thrust(crammed?) into the salad spinner-like real world.

With all of the liberal arts educations that so many atheist/agnostic libs come out of school with, none of them seem to understand some basic reality concepts:
      1) It is human nature for like to cleave to like and to some extent fear the unknown and those different from them. There will always be tension between races, religions, etc. It is exacerbated while those differences are institutionalized. The answer to lessening those tensions are to emphasize the likes, such as nationalism. If a person identifies himself as a white male christian American, it is a much different society than someone who identifies himself as an American christian who is male and white. Think about it.

      2) The vast majority of people need hope to stay sane. Love is great, money is great, the seven virtues are great, but hope is what keeps people going, their attitudes positive, etc. Faith is a major generator of hope. It does not have to be faith in a religion, but you can bet that most people with no religious faith, have placed that faith(and thus source of hope) in something else. None of them accept that as reality and it is sad.

There is more, but it is lunch time! The bottom line is that Dems are so much more emotional about their Gov't because many use it to replace or partially replace the God concept. In that light, (and I think there are many like this) Gov't is the main source of their hope and while they don't WORSHIP it, they want to give the hope they get from it to everyone.

      Dead. Spot. On.

I have often tried to point out to liberals that because they use government as the expression of THEIR moral impulses (which all humans have regardless of religious beliefs), THEY are the ones to fear and THEY are the ones who are in essence creating a theocracy, blurring the line between church and state. It matters not that they see their "church" as the university and their ministers as PhDs, it is the exact same thing. Liberalism is simply moral certainty expressed through the power of government. That is EXACTLY what the founders were scared of. They'd seen the wreckage in Europe of Popes and Kings using power in a "God said" kind of way. They never wanted moral certainty to have political power. Bad ju-ju.

Liberals are stupid because while they are so freaking scared of the Christian right (whatever that is), they are basically creating what they are so scared of. Bright folks.

As for differences dividing us, I wrote about what I believe are the roots of prejudice here: http://stupidisafiveletterword.blogspot.com/2012/04/prejudice-never-goes-away.html

I think, as you point out, that we, as humans, have a deep-seated desire to connect with others like ourselves, but that doesn't mean we necessarily hate those who are NOT like us. Hatred of other, I believe, develops when we believe that the other group has gamed privileges or protections that we do not have. Or that put us at risk. Then you've got all kinds of bad blood.

That is why limited Constitutional government based on individual liberties and justice for all men allowed so many different races, religions and cultures to not only get along but to prosper in America. Never happened before. Won't ever happen again.

  2. I went back and read your April post. The idea of privileges denied is a valid 21st century cause, but no white people envied the slaves anything in the past. I think it was rooted in quite the opposite, a feeling of superiority by whites. The feeling that whites made the USA in to a great nation and blacks just picked cotton, and all of the Hispanic nations to our South failed in their country experiments. Black racism is justifiably from that attitude that they got from whites in the past, and grievances. But how long should racial memory be relevant and how far back to you get to go for grievances? I don't think that feelings of racial superiority are prevalent today, but that could easily be my blindness from like cleaving to like.

It is a tough one, but I believe one thing is sure. As long as Government promotes race envy, there will be racial tension.

    1. No, of course white people didn't envy the slaves because they were the group using the power of government to grant themselves privilege and position within society, while denying same to the slaves. The idea of slavery is a perfect example. One group using power to squash another group. This leads to anger and divisiveness.

It's just like the 1%'ers, as the OWS call them. They don't envy us peons. But they for damn sure are using the government to grant themselves a free ride to the tune of billions of dollars. And that makes other people ticked.

The group in power never envies anyone else.
