The movie "Idiocracy" now proven SCIENCE!

Human intelligence 'peaked thousands of years ago and we've been on an intellectual and emotional decline ever since'

Or, as I like to paraphrase, stupid should hurt. A lot. As in die it hurts so much.

If ANY of the really smart guys who are always lecturing us on SCIENCE! are willing to stand their ground on evolution in the face of this information, then it makes perfect sense -- in fact, it is inarguable -- that the more advanced our societies become, and consequently the more stupid people we can carry -- the goddamn dumber we get as a whole.

Or you could just look at the electorate that voted for Dear Leader twice and have all proof you need.

Don't remember for sure what novel I picked that up from.

  2. That's the premise of the movie, Idiocracy. A guy is absolutely average and is frozen. When he is thawed out years later, he is the smartest man on the planet.

    1. Yeah, it's an old idea. Goes back at least to the social darwinism ideas that originated at the end of the 19th century. Surprising that anybody thought throwing in the idea of random mutations in the genes affecting intelligence made for a paper new and novel enough to be worth publishing.

  3. Wouldn't that be ironic. The human species finally reaches the point in evolution where telepathy is possible and mind reading is like reading a blank page.

  4. On the plus side, the guys who want to transfer human intelligence into a computer don't have worry about improving the technology. Another few generations and a 486 ought to be good enough.

  5. As a species Homo Sapiens is not intelligent. Clever yes...but
not intelligent. An intelligent species learns how to build
nuclear devices then decides the risks outweigh the reward and don't build any....a clever species builds them by the thousands. An intelligent species understands that adversity creates strength....that supporting and rewarding sloth and laziness under the guise of welfare and compassion weakens us.
The clever use welfare and compassion as a political tool of enrichment and empowerment for a handful at the expense of the majority. No....we are not an intelligent species and as such our time on this planet has been and will be very very short compared to that of other species.

    1. Dan, good points all. I think we need to throw in the concept of MORALITY to really screw things up, though.

Humans are the only species that appear to be wired for morality and, I would argue, it is because we are able to conjecture and therefore can weigh "good" and "bad". This gives us the ability to square what we can do with that we SHOULD do. Then, of course, we don't act on it, like nuclear plants. HAHAHAHA! And that makes us look clever instead of intelligent.

Our Founding Fathers were intelligent. Obama is clever. And just over 1/2 of us are bone-head stupid.

  6. Ha! Doesn't surprise me. Smart people are being out-bred.

I love the movie "Idiocracy" by the way. I kind of feel we're living it now.
