The 17th Amendment and the Supreme Court have done so much damage to the Constitution and progressivist ideology has done so much damage to society that the Constitution isn't really in effect any more. It's just a totem, a symbol with no real power.
When 'We The People' have absconded from their responsibility of being ever vigilant against tyranny, then your Constitution has lost its value - at least to too many people who don't even know what's written in it. Hell, I'm Aussie and I probably know more about what's in it than many of your countrymen do.
The amount of people who value freedom has dropped to a truly dangerous degree.
After all, there are more important things happening - like the latest Honey Boo Boo episode... /snark
