Get ready for an immigration fight the public doesn't want
Just a few weeks ago, a State of the Union call for immigration reform would have seemed an exercise in futility. But now, President Obama, who Tuesday night will urge the House to pass new legislation, might have at least an outside chance of getting what he wants.Yes, of course he will.
Does it strike you as odd that Congress always waits for our attention to become fixated on some of the other myriad HOLY SHIT THE WORLD IS GOING TO END! matters of importance before sneaking through the legislation they really wanted all along but knew damn good and well that the American public didn't.
At. All.
I think it's a strategy, if you ask me.
Yeah, I don't know what to think except that the GOP is deliberately trying to blow the mid-terms. The leadership would rather be in the minority than lose their leadership positions to a bunch of icky conservatives. They'd really like to just jack up the base and roll a new more pliant one in underneath.
ReplyDeleteYou are absolutely correct, RG. The leadership of the GOP has been marching in lockstep with the progressive left for decades; they've just been doing it with a "Don't! Stop! Don't! Stop! DON'T STOP!" kind of pleading like the damsel who isn't REALLY in all that distress.
Delete""doing everything possible" - code for 'we know it's a problem but we don't intend to do a damn thing about it'.
ReplyDeleteGOP or Democrat - I honestly don't think there's a huge amount of difference any more. It's obvious to me that the same people behind the scenes are pulling both parties strings.
There is no difference AT ALL once they get to Washington. The only illusion of difference is for the stupid voters who think they can actually get a conservative in there and make a difference. HA! It's like the quote from Mark Twain, "If voting really made any difference, they wouldn't let us do it."
DeleteMark Twain was a wise man.
