I'm an awful person.

I had to watch nearly the entire video before I realized that it wasn't a joke.

How awful does that make me???

  1. Well, if you hadn't tipped me off I probably would have thought the same thing. Something about the announcer's voice doesn't sound sincere.

    1. I know...right? The guy's voice sounds like a phony send-up from a Monty Python episode or something. I was waiting for the laugh...and then realized I was the horrible person waiting to laugh at an elderly gentleman who was setting records.

    2. Yep, I was thinking Monty Python. Reminded me of the Upper Class Twit of the Year competition skit, but this one fits better. I guess I'm horrible too.

    3. Exactly!!! Now I don't feel like quite as big a jerk.

  2. It's what you're used to. I spent years listening to BBC and BBC-style announcers, so this sounded completely normal to me. (Actually, I think I've watched other stuff that guy announced, he sounds terribly familiar.) But yes, to American ears, he sounds like a bit of a twit, probably because he sounds a lot like John Oliver, and we've come to associate that voice with comedy and/or satire. 8)

    1. I am soooooo sorry this was stuck in the moderation file for so long, but I haven't been logged in for a long time. Things have been crazy around here with our business and I just haven't been over on this side of gmail. I miss you all.
